What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that websites may send to the user’s device during browsing. Cookies may be stored in the browser and sent back to the website during a subsequent visit.

Cookies may serve different purposes, for example:

  • enabling the technical operation of the website;
  • remembering user preferences;
  • improving security;
  • collecting statistics on website usage;
  • supporting, where present, marketing or profiling functions.

Not all cookies require the user’s consent. Cookies that are strictly necessary for the technical operation of the website may be used without consent, provided that they are necessary to deliver the service requested by the user. Other cookies, such as non-anonymised analytics cookies, advertising cookies or profiling cookies, require a specific assessment and, where necessary, the user’s consent.

Technologies similar to cookies

Tracking or storing information during browsing may also take place through technologies other than cookies. Some general examples are described below.

Local storage

Local storage is a browser technology that allows a website to store information on the user’s device. It may be used, for example, to store technical preferences or display settings.

Session storage

Session storage is similar to local storage, but the stored information is normally deleted when the browser tab or session is closed.

Tracking pixels

A tracking pixel is a small technical resource, often invisible to the user, that may be used to detect the opening of a page, content or electronic communication. Depending on its configuration, it may allow the collection of technical or statistical data.

Plugins, widgets and embedded content

Plugins, widgets or embedded third-party content may allow interaction with external services, such as social networks, video platforms, maps or other online services. When such content is embedded directly in a page, the user’s browser may establish a connection with the third-party provider.

As of the date of this policy, the website gehri.swiss does not use active social plugins that automatically transmit personal data to social networks such as Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn or YouTube.

If external content, social plugins, maps, embedded videos or similar third-party services are integrated in the future, this policy will be updated to indicate the technologies used, their purposes and any data transfers.

Technologies actually used on the website gehri.swiss

As of the date of this policy, the website gehri.swiss uses a configuration designed to protect personal data and minimise tracking.

The technologies actually used are described in the following table.

Technology Provider / management Domain Purpose Cookies Notes
Matomo Analytics Gehri Rivestimenti SA / self-hosted installation analytics.gehri.swiss Aggregated statistics on website usage No Cookies disabled; Do Not Track respected; no marketing profiling

Matomo Analytics privacy-first

The website gehri.swiss uses Matomo Analytics to collect aggregated statistics on website usage.

Matomo is installed in self-hosted/on-premise mode on separate infrastructure and is accessible through the domain:

https://analytics.gehri.swiss

Matomo is used exclusively for statistical and technical purposes, for example to understand in aggregated form:

  • which pages are visited;
  • which content is most viewed;
  • which devices or browsers are generally used;
  • how to improve the structure and content of the website.

Matomo is configured in privacy-first mode:

  • tracking cookies are disabled;
  • the browser’s “Do Not Track” signal is respected;
  • tracking is carried out through direct JavaScript code;
  • Matomo Tag Manager is not used;
  • Google Tag Manager is not used;
  • Google Analytics is not used;
  • heatmap tools are not used;
  • session recording tools are not used;
  • marketing or advertising plugins are not used;
  • data is not used for behavioural advertising;
  • data is not used for individual user profiling.

This configuration is intended to obtain aggregated statistics on the operation of the website while minimising the processing of personal data and without creating persistent identifiers based on analytics cookies.

Legal basis and purpose of processing

The use of Matomo Analytics, in the configuration described above, takes place for aggregated statistical, technical and website improvement purposes.

The purpose is to understand the general use of the website gehri.swiss and to improve its content, structure, security and performance.

Processing is carried out according to a data minimisation approach. No analytics cookies, behavioural marketing tools or individual profiling systems are used.

Do Not Track

The website respects the “Do Not Track” signal that the user may have enabled in their browser.

When the browser communicates this preference, Matomo is configured not to carry out statistical tracking of the visit.

The methods for enabling or disabling the “Do Not Track” signal depend on the browser used.

Managing cookies through the browser

The user may manage, limit or delete cookies through their browser settings.

The methods vary depending on the browser used. Some useful references are listed below:

Disabling strictly necessary technical cookies may affect the proper functioning of certain parts of the website.

Cookie banner and consent

As of the date of this policy, the website gehri.swiss does not use analytics cookies based on persistent identifiers, advertising cookies or profiling cookies.

If cookies or technologies requiring the user’s consent are introduced in the future, the website will adopt appropriate information tools and, where necessary, a system for collecting and managing preferences.

Changes and updates

The Data Controller reserves the right to modify, update, add to or delete any part of this policy at any time.

In the event of relevant changes, the revision date indicated on this page will be updated.
